Nutritional facts and health benefits of sesame seeds

Sesame seeds may be tiny, but they are a nutritional powerhouse. Sesame seeds are of different kinds; white, black and brown seeds. Sesame seeds also contain large amounts of magnesium, which according to some studies may prevent diabetes. They can also improve heart health as they are high in antioxidants. Sesame seeds can also fight cancer, because they contain phytate, a compound which fights cancer.

Since sesame seeds contain large amounts of zinc, they can improve bone mineral density and bone health, thereby preventing osteoporosis. They are also rich in fibre and can prevent constipation and boost colon health.

Sesame seeds also contain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant enzyme systems, which can reduce pain and swelling associated with arthritis. Research shows that sesame seeds may also prevent asthma and other respiratory disorders by preventing airway spasms.
