Committing diet adultery is a weekend epidemic for many, whether its linking up with your friends for a few drinks, followed by pizza. Or #NetflixandCheese sessions went into the wee hours of your weekend, and before you could stop yourself, you were 3 burgers away from turning into one. Forgive the hyperbole, but it’s okay. It happens to the most disciplined of the lot. It’s Monday, and that means beast mode-ON.

There’s a few reasonable ways we can get back into track, and adopt the habits we so happily forget about on Friday evenings..

  1. Forgive thy sins

Ok, it’s really not the end of the world. It took a little over a weekend to get where you are, so it would take a little more than a weekend to undo colossal progress. But if you feel really horrible, take a mental note of how you feel so you don’t make the same mistake the next time.

  1. Step away from the cookies..and the scale!

Reasons why it may be best from refraining from junk food are self-explanatory. And you don’t want to jump on the scale right away, because your brain will conveniently ignore how it’s normal to swing in a weight range, even over a few days. Give yourself a few days to get back to the normal way of things before you check if you have fallen off.

  1. Start sweating!

If you restore normalcy in your exercise routine, you’re assuring the same results in your diet. It’s harder to eat bad when working out, so get into it. Don’t be afraid to go a few notches harder to accommodate your weekend splurge. Choose HIIT, strength or run faster and longer if you choose the track life.

  1. Skip rope, not meals!

This is important. Skipping a meal with the false hope of making up for calories will force your body into starvation mode, and anything you eat after that will be stored as fat. Pick lean protein packed food with fiber and you will feel full for longer without the extra calories.

  1. Stay hydrated

Especially if you sipped on a cocktail too many, your body is probably still dehydrated and it could use the extra few glasses to help flush out any of the toxins you may be holding on to. Better yet, drop a bag of your favorite green tea, which will also help you bounce back.

  1. If you eat it, write about it

Weight loss experts say that those who track their daily consumption are more likely to lose weight because they eat more meaningfully and have that extra minute to contemplate a 2nd and 3rd cheat meal. It is also important to make sure you’re meeting you’re daily requirements.
