Tips to take care of your feet

Taking care of one’s feet, is not a top priority for most people. Sure, we clean our feet everyday when we shower, but it is not something we spend a lot of time thinking about. But, did you know that feet are important because they contain about 26 bones and a complex framework of muscles, tendons and ligaments, which absorb the impact of one’s body weight with every step. So, it is important to take care of your feet, by following these  simple tips, which will keep the skin, bones and muscles of the feet healthy.

Choose the right shoe: Wearing the wrong shoes can affect your feet. If you wear shoes that are too small or too tight, you can develop corns and ingrown toenails. Also, if you wear a bigger size shoes, you prevent your heel from settling in as you walk and this can cause calluses, blisters and sore heels. So make sure you wear shoes that fit properly. Also, just like the muscles in the rest of the body, you need to exercise the muscles in  your feet, in order for them to stay strong. So make sure that you walk daily as this will ensure that your tendons and ligaments stay flexible.

Wash your feet: We spend long hours wearing  shoes and the moisture and sweat trapped in our shoes, make the feet an ideal place for bacteria to grow and thrive, especially between the toes. So, wash your feet thoroughly, paying close attention to the skin between the toes.  Also, after you wash your feet, make sure you dry your feet thoroughly particularly between the toes.

Moisturise: It is important to moisturise the feet before going to bed because the feet have undergone a lot of wear and tear in the course of the day and moisturising  helps prevent dry and cracked skin. Rub a small amount of body butter or a thick lotion on your feet every night and then put on a pair of cotton socks. The socks will not only hold the moisturiser against your skin, but prevent it from getting all over your sheets and by morning, you will have  softer feet.

Find the right socks: It is important to wear the right socks because socks play an important role in absorbing moisture from the feet. So try and use socks make from nature fibres like cotton or wool. Socks made from natural materials will also be able to absorb the moisture from the feet and prevent bacteria from settling there. Also, make sure you change your socks everyday to prevent being infected by a skin disease.
