Almond milk is more nutritious than ordinary milk and is perfect for those who are lactose intolerant or are allergic to soy. Almond milk is also perfect for those who are trying to lose weight. A glass of almond milk contains approximately 60 calories and it is rich in vitamins and bone-building calcium. Here is a simple easy recipe to make almond milk at home.
1. Soak the almonds overnight, so that they soften and then strain them.
2. Next, place them in your blender/mix and add one and a half cups of filtered water. Grind this until it becomes a smooth paste. If you want to sweeten the paste, you can add fresh vanilla, (you will get these pods at specialty stores) cinnamon or honey.
3. Now take this creamy paste out of the blender and place it in a clean cheesecloth which you have placed over a large bowl. You might have to do this part in parts, depending on the size of your strainer and bowl. Gather the cheesecloth and squeeze the almond milk out. You can add the residue to your flour, thereby increasing the nutritional value of your chapattis.
You can use it just like milk, in cereals, recipes, in a milkshake, or simply drink it. Almond milk can last for about three to four days, if refrigerated.
